Kung hei fat choy!

It's the Lunar New Year 4712, and we are entering the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar, so I want to share this photo of the statue in Riverdale Park depicting Dr Sun Yat-sen, the first president of the Republic of China. Dr Sun spent many years of his life in exile, in England, Japan, the Philippines, the United States, and for a short time, Canada. Early in the 20th century, he gave a speech at Victoria Hall in Toronto to raise funds for his revolutionary movement. The statue, by Joe Rosenthal, depicts Dr Sun holding his book, The Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy, and socialism.

I took this photo in the days following the big ice storm in December 2013, which is why Dr Sun looks as though he's crying frozen tears.

People born in the year of the horse are clever, kind, cheerful, perceptive, popular, and stubborn. For all of us, horses and non-horses alike, the coming year should bring health and prosperity. Kung hei fat choy, everyone!
